Register now to learn a foreign language!

Learning a second (or third!) language early is a great idea! The Y generally offers German and Spanish, with an additional preschool class.

Take a beginner course with an emphasis on spoken and written German. The curriculum engages various learners (oral, visual, and physical). This excellent beginner course teaches vocabulary and sentence structure to communicate in everyday German in a liberal arts learning environment. Private lessons are 30 minutes, one time per week, for the duration of the session.

Learn Spanish through fun games, activities, and songs with a native Spanish-speaking instructor. Meet new friends and learn about a different culture and way of life. Spanish is not offered this fall, but contact the Arts and Education office for upcoming offerings.

Please get in touch with the Arts & Education office at 513-932-1424 ext 226 to schedule.

Do you have fond memories of your days in a school band? Would you like your homeschooled child to have their own band experience? The Southwest Ohio Homeschool Music Academy is an actual school music experience for homeschoolers.

SWOHMA is an open-enrollment music program that offers homeschooled students in all grades an opportunity to experience choral, orchestral, and band instruction. In addition, each semester-long class leads to a free concert (one for Winter and one for Spring) showcasing every music academy ensemble as well as the choir.

Instrumental students are placed according to ability and experience into a leveled class (beginner, intermediate or advanced). Your student will not be required to audition in front of other students but will be asked to play a self-selected musical piece for the director to determine class placement.

Band and Strings classes meet on Tuesday Mornings/Afternoons and Choir classes meet on Thursday afternoons. Pricing is for each semester, a more detailed calendar will be available each September.

Contact Natasha Neal at violin.natasha@gmail.com for more information about the Southwest Ohio Homeschool Music Academy.

Dance classes at the Y are a wonderful experience for kids. Whether in ballet, tap, clogging, or hip hop, they'll have fun and get a workout in, too. Through dance, children gain physical strength, flexibility, and coordination. All dance is a movement to the beat of different styles of music, so children are also learning creative expression. In dance classes, children encourage one another and practice together, allowing new friendships to start.

A variety of flotation devices and water games will be used to build confidence and strength while maintaining a safe instructional environment in the pool. In order to progress to the intermediate level, swimmers must demonstrate the ability to jump into water over their head unassisted and swim the length of the instructional pool using correct freestyle and backstroke technique.
