Dance classes at the Y are a wonderful experience for kids. Whether they are in ballet, tap, clogging, or hip hop they'll have fun and get a workout in, too. Through dance children gain physical strength, flexibility, and coordination. All dance is movement to the beat of different styles of music so children are also learning creative expression. In dance classes children are encouraging one another and practicing together, which allows for new friendships to start.

Our dance classes are progressive, which means children learn routines during the classes and then perform in our spring dance recital. If your child is interested in dance, but you'd like more information, please contact Jaime Spurlock at 923 1424 ext. 226.

Meet ballet instructor Ms. Jaime

Ms. Jaime doesn’t remember a time when she wasn’t dancing. Starting at the age of 3, she took her first ballet class, and has loved it ever since. Rounding out her education in jazz, tap and modern, she always came back to Classical Ballet, enjoying the rules and classic beauty of the dance style. Dancing en pointe until life got in the way, Ms. Jaime came back to ballet after college, getting married and having children. Taking an adult class here at the Countryside YMCA, she fell in love all over again and was able to pick up where she left off and start to transition into teaching. There she met her true calling. After working with children her entire adult life as a summer camp counselor/coordinator, and as a child care administrator, combining the love of dance and teaching children felt natural and almost effortless. This year marks the 10th year of teaching here at the Countryside YMCA, building her ballet program from 40 students at the start to well over 100 last year. She hopes to continue building her program, and giving students a wonderful start in their dance education. Ms. Jaime loves to say she isn’t only teaching ballet, but she is teaching children to love to dance, wherever that may lead them.
