Lap swimming and recreational water play are some of our favorite activities because swimming is a valuable skill that can provide exercise and enjoyment for life.

Swimming at the Y, whether at one of our classes or on your own, is a fun way to stay active, but this activity also offers other benefits.


Alleviate Stress

Between work, family, and everything else, life can get stressful. Swimming can help you de-stress and may even ease anxiety. Physical activity also helps release feel-good endorphins that can stave off depression. You’ll sleep better, too. All of these effects work together to help you feel more relaxed and at ease.


Enjoy a Full Body Workout

Swimming is a full-body workout. Whether you’re doing a breaststroke or a butterfly, swimming will use every muscle in your body.

The natural resistance of the water will also help you burn more calories. Even a gentle swim can burn 200 calories in just 30 minutes.


Improve Your Energy Levels

Swimming for just 30 minutes three times per week can help boost your energy levels. Inactivity can zap your energy, leaving you feeling sluggish and tired by the afternoon. A simple swim can leave you feeling refreshed and reenergized.


A Gentle Way to Exercise

Some forms of exercise, like running and jogging, can be hard on the joints. Swimming is a low-impact exercise that’s gentle on the body. Because water supports most of your body weight, swimming can help you stay active when you’re recovering from an injury or illness (as long as your doctor gives you the green light).


  • This natatorium houses two pools: the competition pool and an instructional pool.
  • The competition pool is a 25-yard, eight-lane pool ranging from 3.5 to 14 feet deep and is used primarily for water fitness programs, lap swimming, and competitive swimming. The lanes of this pool are numbered 1-8. The water temperature is maintained at 80-82 degrees. In the afternoon and evenings, this pool is primarily scheduled for competitive swimming programs. A hydraulic assist chair is available.
  • The instructional pool is 30' by 50', and ranges from 2.5 to 5 feet and is used throughout the year for swim lessons. The water temperature is maintained at 86-88 degrees. A hydraulic assist chair provided.
  • This indoor pool space is perfect for relaxing water play or lap swimming. With two pools, a family play pool with teaching lanes and a cool lap pool, kids and adults of all ages and abilities can enjoy water fitness and fun.
  • The family play pool ranges from 0 to five feet and features a water slide, spouts, tumble buckets, an interactive water play station, and a Vortex! The water temperature is maintained at 86-88 degrees.
  • The teaching lanes are 25 yards and range from 3.5 to five feet deep. As part of the family play pool, the water temperature is maintained at 86-88 degrees.
  • The cool lap pool is a 25-yard three-lane pool ranging from 3.5 to seven feet deep. The water temperature is maintained at 81-83 degrees.
  • Between the Competition Pool and the Family Aquatic Center, there are always three lanes open for lap swimming.
