First aid classes are important but often overlooked. In today’s blog post, Countryside YMCA discusses the first aid classes that are available.

First aid class

Knowing CPR and first aid can save lives in the event of an emergency. However, many people don’t have the knowledge to provide first aid. That’s why Countryside YMCA offers a variety of first aid classes to prepare you for unforeseen emergencies that may require medical attention. In today’s blog post, Countryside YMCA looks at some of these first aid classes and what they offer.

Basic First Aid and Life Support

You don’t need to have advanced first aid training to help someone during an emergency situation. In fact, there are many cases where a basic understanding of first aid skills can save a life or provide enough stability to give paramedics time to arrive. Countryside YMCA hosts a basic first aid class that includes education on obstructed airway management, sudden injury, sudden illness, bites, stings, and many other things. We also offer a basic life support class that includes training in CPR and AED application with a two-year certification after completion.

Adult and Child CPR and AED

If you want CPR and AED training, Countryside YMCA provides classes for both adults and children. Our adult CPR and AED first aid classes address breathing emergencies and obstructed airway management on an adult victim. Participants can earn a two-year certification through this class. Our adult and child CPR and AED class is similar, but it also includes specific training for how to handle an emergency with a child.

Safe Sitter® and Safe@Home

If you’re worried about an emergency when your kids are at home alone or have a child ages 11 to 16 who wants training on how to be a safe childcare provider, Countryside YMCA has courses that can help. Our Safe Sitter® class is a nationally recognized program that gives future babysitters the skills and knowledge needed to provide child care safely. We also have a Safe@Home program for 9- to 11-year-olds. This class prepares them for life at home when a parent isn’t present. Kids learn what to do in the event of an emergency in this 90-minute class.
