November 16, 2020

Dear Valued YMCA Member,

In light of Governor DeWine’s message Wednesday night, we feel it is important to reach out to you, our members. Because of the continued and severe increase of COVID-19 cases, Governor DeWine shared news reissuing the mask order and forecasted possible implications to the operation of bars, restaurants, and fitness centers this week if the number of positive COVID-19 cases continue to remain high or show no improvement.

We are thankful to our government and community partners that work every day to help make our communities safe and healthy.  As you know, we have been working hard in our buildings and programs to ensure all safety protocols are followed in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

It is important to individual communities that our YMCAs remain open and avoid a second shut down. YMCAs provide the community with a place to improve wellness, form meaningful relationships and enjoy positive interaction in a safe and socially distant environment. These components affect our community’s health, which is closely connected to mental health. Because of you, our YMCA has also been providing critical community services such as pandemic child care, meal and food distribution to families and wellness checks on seniors.

Our Y’s proactive approach and commitment to safety while serving the community throughout the pandemic has proven to be successful. Our members and our staff take the impacts of COVID-19 seriously. Along with our staff, you remain vigilant in helping us maintain a healthy environment so we can continue to serve our communities. Thank you.

However, because this pandemic is ongoing, the potential for disruption in our operations remains present. We must continue our efforts to keep our buildings and program spaces safe. Our collective actions affect our ability to serve.  I ask each of you to take care of yourself by recommitting to your individual safety and to think about how your choices affect everyone around you. This virus is continuing to spread and it's important to us that you and your family stay safe. The safety of our members and staff team is our top priority.  Please wear a mask, practice social distancing, avoid hanging out in groups and stay home if you don’t feel well.

Rest assured our staff team is actively reviewing different scenarios to help us pivot operations quickly in case of a possible mandated temporary closure, and we will communicate any updates through email and social media.

These times are tough and uncertain so it’s important that we help protect each other and continue to be there for one another. Together, we will adapt and continue to create impact and healthy spaces that empower families and strengthen communities. The value of your support - to these programs and to the people who depend on the YMCA - cannot possibly be measured, but your efforts are certainly appreciated beyond any words I could ever say or write.

Thank you, and please take care,

Chris Johnson
