Making an Impact

Men with shovels and hardhats at groundbreaking ceremony It was in 1971, that our founder, the late Ralph J. Stolle, first saw an unfilled need for a community space built on the mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. He sought the help of other local business leaders - George Henkle, Charles Hamilton, Ellis Thompson, Neil Armstrong, Marvin Young, Mike Norris– to come up with a solution. Ralph and his group visited 27 YMCAs before opening the doors to Countryside YMCA in 1978. Since then, we have become the largest and most comprehensive YMCA in the country…and even one of the largest in the world.

What began as an eight-lane outdoor pool, has grown into a 230,000-square-foot facility. We offer a long list of activities - swimming, gymnastics, running, cycling, climbing, weight training, fitness, creative arts, sports, summer camp, scenic trails, licensed childcare, the Stolle Center for active seniors and the Motion Zone for active youth.

But this facility – as amazing as it is – would be just another building without our YMCA programs which are designed to meet the needs of this community. As society’s needs have changed over the past four decades, we have continuously evolved in order to better serve our neighborhoods and the people who live here. From preschool outreach to disease prevention programs, from youth sports to swim lessons for those with special needs, from camps to active older adult programs, we’ve adapted to the changing needs and we’ll continue to do so in order to provide the level of quality programs our community wants and deserves.

We are tasked with serving all of Warren County, a huge geographical space housing over 200,000 people. Ten years ago we recognized that in order to serve more of these people we would have to take Countryside YMCA into other locations. In 2007, we opened a small facility in Deerfield Township; in 2013 we partnered with Otterbein Retirement Community and opened a facility in their Life Enrichment Center; in 2016 we purchased a building in Maineville for childcare and other programs. What’s most valuable to us, however, is the fact that we’ve grown from serving 1,214 charter families to currently serving 8,500 families.

There are few opportunities in life when you are asked to share in a project vision that will yield results in your lifetime. Over the years thousands of children, seniors, young adults, and families have benefitted from our enriching and engaging programs. The positive impact that the YMCA mission has had on these lives is impossible to measure, but these endless possibilities for good is what will inspire us to continue to serve our community for generations to come.

The Impact of the YMCA: One Family's Story

family of six " We have been so blessed to be a part of the Countryside YMCA. When the Lord grew our family 7 years ago through adoption, we didn’t know that special needs was also going to be joining our family. Our younger son has epilepsy, sensory and cognitive delays he has to work through on a daily basis. His medical bills, therapies and special keto diet take a lot of time and resources. Because of these extra things, it has been a blessing to have a place to be able to come together as a family for a little bit of a 'normal life.'

The wide variety of opportunities at the Y have allowed us to connect. From our older children getting to go to the cardio strength room to our littles having the opportunity to run around the gym and play ball, everyone enjoys going to the Y. We are so grateful for the financial assistance program. It has been instrumental in helping to strengthen our family, and giving us a place that we can all relax and have fun together."-  The Gullett Family: Tom, Kristi, Katie, Timothy, Thaddeus & Kylee

Lives Touched by Annual Campaign Funds in 2019

When you think of the Y, you might first think of exercising or swimming. But the Y offers so much more. As a non-profit organization (503C), our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that help build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The money given to our Annual Campaign through individual donations and corporate partnerships is used to provide these outreach programs for our community.

The Impact of YMCA Childcare : Building Children of Character

a group of preschool teachersThe Children’s Center at Countryside YMCA  was awarded the top recognition of five stars by the Ohio Department of Job and Family services and the Ohio Department of Education’s Step Up to Quality (SUTQ) rating program. There are 71 Licensed Child Care Centers in Warren County and only 10 have a 5-Star rating. Step Up to Quality programs go beyond state licensing requirements to better serve the needs of young children and their families and to prepare them for success in kindergarten and beyond.

Countryside YMCA is the largest 5-star program with 44 staff and 165 children. One thing that sets The Children’s Center apart from other childcare centers is that we have several staff that have been with us for over 20 years. That is almost unheard of in childcare.

Preschool children enrolled here have several unique opportunities. First, all preschoolers are given free swim lessons. “Ohio ranks as one of the top 10 states for unintentional death due to drowning; Countryside YMCA is striving to change that. Donations to our Annual Campaign allow us to provide swim lessons to our preschoolers as part of our curriculum. That’s not something parents are going to get someplace else,” said Countryside YMCA CEO Chris Johnson. Besides swim, children have the opportunity to attend age-appropriate extracurricular classes such as ballet, gymnastics, soccer, and Spanish during the day.

Our vision is for all Countryside YMCA childcare programs to be the leaders in building children of character. Through the use of  "The Creative Curriculum" the Y’s program encompasses the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.

Young Lives Touched

We love kids of all ages and we want them to know that every time they come to the Y. From babies to tweens, toddlers to teens, we offer programs so that all kids would know just how important we think they are.

YMCA Memorial Tree Grove: Honoring  the Impact of a Life Well Lived

Seated crowd outdoors The Countryside YMCA Memorial Tree Program started in October 2019 with five trees planted to honor family members and friends who were Countryside YMCA members. These maple or lilac trees will be planted in one of the designated Mulford Nature Trail memorial tree groves located on Countryside YMCA property.

An engraved name plate will be with the tree. As a symbol of life and hope, memorial trees honor a person who has passed away through a living legacy that enriches the environment. This is a beautiful tribute that can also be a meaningful memorial gift.

Making a Big Spash with the "Most Loved" Swim Lessons for 2019

As a leading nonprofit committed to youth development, the Countryside YMCA has been a leader in providing swim lessons and water safety for more than 40 years in Warren County. Our Annual Campaign has provided funding for The Begin to Swim Program in order for us to help combat drowning statistics of youth. Lifesaving swimming lessons are provided free of charge to all Donovan Elementary School fourth graders as well as to all preschoolers enrolled in The Children's Center. In 2019 this program expanded to Waynesville Schools.

Parents also voted and named Countryside YMCA the "Most Loved Swim Lessons for 2019" for the Mason-West Chester region. The award was bestowed by Hulafrog, a nationwide online resource to help families find the best offerings for their families.

In addition to swim lessons, we offer a variety of aquatics programs including water fitness, lap swimming, competitive swimming, and recreational swimming, diving, and lifeguarding.

Healthy Living by the Numbers

As one of the world's largest YMCAs we offer members a place where they can swim, lift, cycle, flip, dribble, run, climb, dance, create, and wander outdoors. Some members just come in for their regular class or program, while others find the endless opportunities keep them coming back for more. We support their efforts to use the Y to improve themselves and their lives.

Countryside YMCA Recognizes George Leasure for Lifetime Service Award

George Leasure George Leasure has been a consistent leadership volunteer at the Y for decades. He has served as on the Board of Directors as a member and as Chairperson. He has been a Trustee. And he has served on both our Finance and Physical committees, as a member and as committee chairperson.  He has also been a consistent donor and supporter of our many programs and offerings. Besides all that volunteering, George is a regular YMCA fitness participant. He is consistently in the Cardio Strength Center showing all of us the importance of making Health Living a priority. George remains engaged and actively involved in the Y, for which we are thankful.

2019 Volunteers: Thank You!

It’s not just the monetary donations that allow us to do all we do. Those people who are willing to give of their time and talents provide much of the sweat equity behind the scenes of our events and programs. Thank you; you inspire us.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

Countryside YMCA - one of the world’s largest YMCAs - is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the Warren County community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. For more than 40 years, Countryside YMCA has embodied the Christian principles that help people achieve a balance of spirit, mind and body. We work hard every day to ensure that all are welcome to experience the unmatched facilities, outreach, and varied programs available only at the Y.
