Parent and Child Classes

This program promotes aquatic readiness for children from 6 to 36 months. Parents will accompany their child in the water during the lessons and will learn ways to help their child become more comfortable in and around water. A parent or guardian at least 18 years of age must be in the water.

  • Stage A
    Water Discovery (previously Shrimp)

Water Discovery introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment and gives parents guidance on developing their child’s ability. Children build skills that add to their self-confidence by learning pre-swimming skills through songs, games, and play. Both parent and child benefit from learning and having fun together.

  • Stage B
    Water Exploration (previously Kipper)

Water Exploration focuses on exploring body positions, blowing bubbles, and learning fundamental safety and aquatic skills. Parents receive guidance on developing their child’s ability, and children build skills that add to their self-confidence by learning pre-swimming skills through songs, games, and play. Both parent and child benefit from learning and having fun together.

  • Stage 0
Water Acclimation with Parents (previously Pike with Parents)

In Water Acclimation, parents and instructors prepare swimmers for independence and skill development. Participants learn all aspects of safety, appropriate class behavior, listening skills, and independence from parents. Swimmers will practice bobs, proper water exit, jump-push-turn-grab, front & back float, and swim-float-swim. Parents will participate, but the class focuses on preparing for swim independence.
